Return to another Storm

Sept 21

Pat Rausch was there to take our lines as we came in. What a wonderful warm feeling that is. It had been a yucky night with variable winds, sometimes 0 and the sails would be Thwacking about and then going up to 25knots, lovely but it meant readjusting the sails. Oh and the rain!

We had a guest for an hour, but he didn’t say much.

As I was coming in I realized we might be late for the bridge opening so I started hammering her in. Everyone was out in their motor boats and in Florida they are not the most considerate. I was cursing them wondering why they weren’t getting out of my way and then realized I was on the wrong side. OOPS

Michelle, a boater who we met in Beaufort sent me these pictures from the storm we had just left in Southport. 22.89 ins of rain! Our radar has stopped working, we think might also be related to the rain but I am beginning to think that maybe its better judgment to watch the skies with the naked eye. And our list of repairs is long enough already.

It’s beautiful traveling but also beautiful coming home to Symrna Yacht club and sit with friends , watch the moonrise from our boat and walk in the many wilderness parks around.

We have been met with so much kindness while traveling but also here in the club on our return. To quote Pat. ‘No matter how interesting the trip is. It’s always nice to be home’

  1. Jane I so love that first picture of M’aingeal sailing home, beautiful. I don’t even know what that wrecked item in the first photo is….? A car??

The damage is horrifying, cannot even imagine how people cope with a flooded house, and nowhere to go, no clothes, no anything…

Thk good ness you and Pat are safe, and oh, M’aingeal too.
