Tropical storm in Southport.

I was aware that the storm was coming but didn’t realize there would be as much rain. It was constant for 48hours with winds up to 50 knots. Three boats sank in our marina. I believe it because the bilge stopped working. ! Bilges ! And there was a lot of damage to roads. When I heard the tornado warning I felt a wee bit queasy. The marina had been wiped out two years previously.

Fortunately MAingeal was snuggled in between two large boats. I could feel the tension in the ropes though and it didn’t stop the rain from dripping in and soaking everything. The next morning we needed to dry out all the cushions and I found out the laundry and rest rooms were closed because the city’s sewers were damaged. Our Neighbour Tod offered us his laundry which was a godsend and while I was doing that Betsy his wife took me to Walmart. .. boaters are so generous. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy in times like this.

The following day was very calm but we chose to stick around. Cleaned the boat and then had a drink in the only bar that was open. Well actually it is a club but we could join if we paid our initiation and annual membership fees of $2.

It was a beautiful sunset but when we came out of ‘our club’ the tide had covered the walk home. It was ankle deep. We had to take the long way home, which was no bad thing as the scenery and harvest moon was beautiful.

It was a hard day cleaning up and I can’t say I was too happy when the gas stove had stopped because of the rain. I bought an electric toaster oven in Walmart and this morning when I came out and saw the sunrise and beautiful birds the storm became just a memory.

We’ve headed down to Myrtle beach and think it will be good time to go out to sea tomorrow. Weather looks ok and there will be good moonlight
