And so we headed off to the golf screen early Friday morning. The usual sighting, flying fish and dolphin to cheer us up on our way. First day and night was glorious, no moon in the sky so the stars were shining and you could see the Milky Way. Perseids a meteor shower was out on 11 &12 August. To Catholics they are St Lawerence’s tears. A story too gruesome to tell here. I saw a few shooting stars and one amazing close one. Obviously no photos of that

Forest has some fancy cameras and managed to get the dolphin swimming underwater
Once on the Gulf Stream the boat is carried by the current and it goes up to 10 knots from the usual 5. It feels like you’re on a magic carpet. And we were smack bang in the middle of it. The deepest blue color that is not replicated anywhere on land. I was in my new free hat from West Marine thinking I looked like Audrey Hepburn

And it was all so deliciously idyllic ,,, until the next day when we caught up with the left overs from Debbie.
The sea got horribly confused and lumpy. Wind directly behind us and a following sea. The line from ‘The Ballad of Edmund Fitzgerald ‘. The cook says ‘Fellows it’s too rough to feed you’ and in the next verse ‘fellows it’s been good to know you ‘ kept running through my mind. I had made stew before we set out and of course when I was heating it the pot flew off the counter. Not fun. But I followed the three second rule and didn’t tell the crew.
Don’t judge me! They are all still alive and not hungry !

We didn’t notice that once again our bilge blocked up. The water was about two feet deep, up to the floor almost and nicely filling all the below deck storage where I had a lot of instruction manuals, spare binoculars and other equipment. Too upsetting to photograph.

Although it was lumpy I’m glad to say we escaped the squalls. Well, Pat unfortunately got a particularly rough bit of sea with high waves and then coming into Beaufort the one bit of rainy thundery weather. (He didn’t share any of his beer with Poseidon ! ).
We arrived in Beaufort 9am to a nearly empty marina but they placed us furthest away from the showers and rest rooms ! Hmmph

How GORGEOUS, exhilarating, challenging, messy, and spectacular! I hope to be aboard her one day, even if she is just docked at SYC! Have a great time, my friend. Sing a sailor song for me. XO

I agree with what Deb and Marta said. The photos are great. It truly looked a bit “bumpy” in that one photo. Appears your crew was quite relaxed through it all…a good thing. I can attest to spilling food off of the stove in rough seas (ha ha). Love to hear your sea stories and yarns.

How come in the bad weather posts, Forrest is relaxed in the first photo then in the next photo of the big wave he’s no longer there?!?! And actually there’s no one else shown in later photos! Did the photographer loose all the crew?!? 😆 I think your photos show the scale of things quite well! 😜 JK
Love the blog and thanks for the updates!! XOXO
